I took my daughter to her 2 month checkup. The doctor noted that her soft spot is EXTREMELY small and is closing too rapidly! Has anyone else experienced this?? Please tell me what it was like for you or for someone you know!

Thanks!

I cant remember my daughters soft spot, maybe hers was small too?? I wouldn't worry about it. Millions of women have had babies over the years, and the children have been just fine without surgery. Imagine all of the children in countries that aren't as wealthy as the us. Do they worry about those soft spots? I doubt it. Maybe your doctor is trying to hit you up for the cost of surgery that might not be necessary. I would get a second opinion.

i know that soft spot is called fontanel. has the doctor said anything about it aside from it being extremely small and closing rapidly? because from where i am (philippines) we used that spot to tell if the baby is hungry. if the fontanel is slightly sunken then it's about time to give the baby a bottle. you should ask another doctor about it, if the first one didn't give you an exact explanation why he/she seemed worried about it. good luck and i hope everything's okay.

My co-worker's grandson's soft spot closed prematurely. I don't want to worry you, esp. since your doctor didn't elaborate, but her grandson had to have surgery on his skull. When the soft spot fuses too early, it causes the head to grow oddly (his grew to a point). The surgery is quite common, although it is something I wish for no mother to go through. Please don't try to worry right now. I hope it all works out for you and your daughter.

they thought my daughter's soft spot (fontanels) closed too soon, so her pediatrician measured her head every visit. she was fine and now is an intelligent young woman with a college degree.

I don't know what can be done about it... I have never heard of it closing too fast. Good Luck.
