...I think of Stephen King's novel, and Stanley Kubrick's film, as separate, enjoyable and chilling renditions of the exact same story; there are things about the book, which are better than the film, and vice-versa, with regards to the film versus the novel.

...by the way, I trust that you know that Warner Homve Video is about to release a 2-disc special edition (and letterboxed, finally) of Kubrick's film...

...let's wring our hands in absolutely ghoulish delight, folks!!!

..."Come and Play with Us!!!...", says the twin girls, at the end of the long, cold, echoing hallway (...brrrrr!!! Just gives me the chills, just thinking about that !@#$% scene!!!)

Crazy Movie... After I saw it, I got scared every time I sat close to Jack at a Laker game... It is a great horror movie for its time... I love the part where the boy starts yelling REDRUM REDRUM.. LOL I would turn off the lights in the bathroom and yell out REDRUM to scare my friends.. Its Murder backwards.. I think the meaning of the story was that, the hotel can make anyone go crazy and commit murder... Even kill his own wife and kids... Nicholson is has some crazy acting skills in this movie..

Great flick with a sincerely creepy Jack Nicholson. It differs quite a bit from the book, but I think Kubrick's version is killer.

LOL- Well let's just say Candygirl," Ever since I first watched this movie, I'm been running around the house with a 10inch craving knife, watching every door in my home."
I sworn off of old Hotels of any sort!

Really I loved the show, was dam good in the 80's when first came out and still good today. Then again I'm a great fan of Stephen King whom wrote the book, (is his story ;-)

To think Stephen King never thought he had it in him to become a writer.

This is one of the best films ever made, and by far my favorite Kubrick film.
The only thing I never really figured out was the ending. I understood the idea; it's a common twist nowadays. It just didn't add up for me.

hey candy!
i freaking loved that movie! its kinda psychotic, but in a kick-*** way. jack nicholson is fantastic, and his wife is what made the movie really scary for me. :S 'Danny's not here, Mrs. Torrence.' :D that little kid is a good actor. and personally, one of my favorite lines to repeat. my favorite scene is...the last time we see Jack. in the maze. yeah... good stuff there.

As much as I liked the version with Nicholson, I like King's version more. There was much more "King" mind twisted material used in his version.

"The Shining" is one of the best horror movies ever made and one of the few exceptional adaptations from a Stephen King novel.

Its a very good film but i do believe it slightly over hyped as to what it actually is. Then again at the time i suppose it probably had a lot more impact.

The ONLY Stephen King adaptation that was better than the book.
