Well, Riddle already knew how to control his powers at such a young age. He knew of his special abilities. But since you are talking about the time at Hogwarts, I would have to say that Voldemort was a pretty smart person. He knew of Horcruxes which Hermione doesn't know of without Harry telling her of it. Also, he thought of the perfect place for the entrance to the chamber of secrets. Noone knew where it was located and it was so hard to find. Also, riddle already knew how to perform the illegal curses during his time at Hogwarts. Like the time when he killed his uncle. He also knew memory modifying charms. I'd say he's a smart and powerful wizard. And if Dumbledore is the only one he ever feared, then that means he's only second to Dumbledore. This leads to the fact that he is powerful and noone can stop him but Dumblefore because Dumbledore is the most powerful and intelligent sorcerer in the world. Dumbledore is smarter than Hermione, therefor telling us that Voldemort is more smart and since he doesn't fear anyone else rather than Dumbledore, then that means noone else can stop him. Get my drift? Good question.

Read the books. I promise, it is a LOT different. 1. They all cared for each other. Remember the troll? And the time Hermione stayed back with Ron? They're best friends, and that is so much more evident in the book. 2. Actually, in the books, Ron is willing to go up against his biggest fear (spiders) for Hermione. He missed Hermione so much. 3. She does that with Ron, too. Book 6, when he almost dies. Ron doesn't usually go to the hospital wing as much as Harry does. 4. I think that was because Ron was asleep. I think that she did wind up telling him. I don't remember when, though. 5. When did she save Harry? I don't remember... 6. Harry has the visions while he's asleep. So only Ron would be there for him. 7. This is why I didn't like the DH part 1 as much as the rest. They NEVER danced in the books. Hermione realized that she had made a commitment to Harry, and that she shouldn't back down from that. She understood that it would be hard. Again, not shown in the movies. 8. Well, Ron didn't really understand what he was doing. Remember, in the hospital wing, his first words when he was half-asleep were "Hermione...Hermione..." 9. Again, in the books, they were both screaming. 10. Again, also in the books, they have more bonding time and Harry teases Hermione much more than is shown. 11. They're best friends. What do you expect? 12. Again, they're best friends for 6 years! I think that Harry/Hermione had a brother/sister relationship. They never really liked each other, but they would gladly die for the other. Ron/Hermione was much more of the romantic.

Tom Riddle, dude! Hermione would have never known what a Horcrux was if Tom hadn't made so many.
Remember, Tom got O's in all his O.W.L's. Hermione missed an O in Defense Against the Dark Arts.

harry as powerful and talented but not all that smart. he had to have hermione help him alot. tom riddle was minipulative which is why he was thought to be brilliant plus if harry defeated him then that puts him last on the list. i think it was hermione. she got really terrific grades, fought voldemort, stood beside harry potter, developed an agency type thing for the rights of house elves, and planned alot during searching for so much more! it is hermione definately. it is not a matter of power or blood that shows brilliance.

I believe that Riddle was more powerful, because Hermione is the smartest. She is know for knowing and accomplishing spells that is taught in school. Riddle did not learn about Horcuxes in school. They don't teach that. SO riddle may be powerful but hermione has intelligence

Hermione did not know about the horcruxes...
Harry told her after he found out from Slughorn's memory..
While Riddle had an idea of its concept before Slughorn told him of it...
Hermione is of a different kind of brilliance..
But like Xenophilius Lovegood says "NARROWMINDED"...
Hermione would've never experimented as Voldemort did...
She is not as inventive as he is...
This makes her a little less powerful than him..

I'd say that they were both quite smart, but Hermione was probably wiser because she didn't underestimate the power of love like Tom did.

Most intelligent - Hermione Granger
Most powerful - Tom Riddle
I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Tom Riddle - he'd probably come back ten years later and get me!

I'd have to say that Hermione Granger was the better and more powerful student. She had a thirst for knowledge and she loved reading.
And everyone knows: READERS ARE SUCCEEDERS!

Tom was way smarter than Hermoine. She is good to but he was a Genious. An Evil Genious...but genious none the less, and is described as being one of the brightest minds to ever come into hogwarts
