Why are Americans always criticize on Yahoo Answers?

Question

I'm not complaining or anything I just simply want to know why?

I'm not sterotyping or being racist its just a simple question. I'm sure there are other races being criticize but everytime I'm looking for a question to answer its always about Americans. And I never said that Americans are the only one complaining I mean how you know I'm an american?

A few factors.
1: George Bush has made America look like a land of buffoons.
2: It's the in thing.
3: Jealousy (sorry, guys... the shoe fits. Wear it.)
4: A lack of understanding of our mixed culture.
5: The American 10 Commandments (the Bill of Rights), which many foreigners can't comprehend.
6: A few Americans act really badly overseas, and that colors the perception of all Americans.
7: We use imperial measurements instead of metric.
8: Our collective social retardation where women's bodies are concerned, as perceived thanks to the FCC and vocal hyper-fundies.

I'm sure there are more excuses.

As several of the answers on here have proven (especially BlueLadyBlue R), many people are quite ignorant of what America is actually like.
There's a misconception that Americans are not well-traveled. Now, it may be that many Americans never leave America, but that is not the same as not being well-traveled.
Consider this... if we took two weeks of vacation time every year, and visited a different state in our nation for a week at a time on every vacation, it would take 25 years to visit every state in the United States. That's just to visit every STATE in the Union. That's not even to really travel around in every state very much.
Consider also, that in a one hour drive, I can legitimately visit a dozen different and distinct cultures brought over from other nations, and that also blows the "uncultured" myth out of the water.
What it boils down to, is that the majority of the criticism Americans receive is due to the ignorance of people regarding the diversity and immensity of America.
Many tourists think that since they visited Yosemite, or saw "Gangs of New York" that they know all about America. But, that's just more ignorant stereotyping.

If any one country and or its people play a more prominent role on the world stage, they tend to be open to criticism. In USA there seems to be a focus about teaching the youth that they are the best in the world.
Unfortunately ( and I know it's not everyone), this parrocial attitude comes across as not being interested in other countries, customs and traditions and therefore the image of the "loud and ignorant ( Why don't they speak English?) " image is often the one that most people associate with the citizens of the USA. I also think that it doesn't help that some TV programs show the very worst elements of American society and of course these being exaggerated for dramatic affect, many people believe this is how all the individuals are.
I personally met many pleasant and interesting people whilst visiting the USA.

Mainly because of the way you portray yourselves and how the rest of the world views that portrait. For some reason you think you are the best in the world at everything and unfortunately your not. You do have the world's stupidest man as your leader and you do have the tendency to invade other countries on a whim. As a nation you are not well travelled so you do not have a great deal of how the world works outside the States.

Can I just add, I have been to the States on numerous occasions and find the American people as a whole in your own country extremely decent and hard working people. The just of this is, try and understand the world is a big place with different cultures to your own and some of these are actually better than yours.

You asked why do we think you are American - Clue here, you spelt Criticize which is the American way. Did I mention you do not have a great education system either, sorry.

I too have many American friends and have travelled throughout the US, there are too many Americans that feel they are all they need. They have a superior attitude yet within the confines of their countrie they have a shoot em up attitude, racist is alive and well which makes your country look totally ignorant and backwards. Your priorities are in the wrong place. You tend to glorify criminals and money talks and every media event becomes like a three ring circus. I think of Gotti the godfather in prison and the show from America all about Gotti. It is a weekly show about his daughter and her kids. Where is the intelligence there? Yet there is enough religious fanatics to choke you. Get rid of your racists open your minds learn to become one with the rest of the world and your reputation will improve..oh one more thing get rid of the TREE.

Honestly? I think Americans are very sheltered when it comes to what the rest of the world thinks of their government ,politics and culture. When americans get together online with the whole world only then does the resentment that other countries feel towards your polititians and their policies come to light for you.
