Good point. I saw a couple broke up over that to me all she had to do is place the lid down its not hard.

The seat has a rim that helps prevent slashes,. Yes I know there is a rim already, but an extra one helps; and it just looks nicer.
Way in the middle of the night I have went in and almost fell in. Don't like to cut on the light because it hurts my eyes, but if I don't I can't see for certain if the seat is down.
So to avoid falling in the toilet, I have to cut on the light, hurt my eyes, and risk becoming fully awake - because someone can not put down the toilet seat.

Because in the middle of the night, when it is dark and I get up to take a tinkle, I hate "falling in" because someone left the seat up. This has happened more than once and I was not amused. Then, I have to take a shower (falling in the gross) which wakes me up. Then I have a hard time going back to sleep. Now what happens to a guy in a similar situation - he gets up in the middle of the night, the seat is down and he stands taking a piss. And goes back to sleep. Where's the problem?

Where I'm from the correct etiquette is to put both the seat and the lid down after you're done using the toilet. It has to do with hygiene and keeping the bad smell to a minimum.
Also, like this both men and women have to put something down after use, so we never ever get into arguments about whose job it is to lift/put down the seat. :)

If you live in a hot country always leave the toilet seat down because the mozzies just love water. Apart from that it is always good manners to leave the seat down. Ask any woman.

It looks scrufffy up! What if your wife had people around and they needed to use the facilities? It just looks weird but with the seat down it looks a bit better. Also, if your wife has said to you multiple times to leave it down and you don't you're ignoring her, which gets really annoying.

I know this question very well. Wren pretty much answered exactly like I would. My wife mostly complains about falling in. I always think, who just goes into a bathroom and sits down on a tiolet without looking?

Men like to keep it up ( I mean the seat and not what you are think)
in order to keep the seat clean when we do the big job.

They complain about falling in...which is funny btw... and all that crap, but the truth is, they should be happy. If the toilet seat is up it means we are not urinating on the part that they sit on. Argument solved!!
Congrats on the new john dude.
