In a nutshell, Yes.
Here are two articles you might find interesting about the similarities between slugs and snails.

Chariotmender, you might want to add these to your source box.

Slugs are related to snails; in the genus Arion, the shell is reduced to a group of calcareous granules below the 'mantle', which appears as a bulge on the upper surface of the slug.

The body of a slug is very similar to that of a snail, the most obvious difference being the abscence of a shell. This is not entirely true however, slugs still have some form of a shell.Sometimes this is a form of plate, lying below the mantle(Limacidae), in other cases there are chalky granules(Arionidae).

Yes. But snails prefer an alkaline soil. Supposedly to build up the shell. Slugs are not fuzzy but seem to prefer acid soil. The latter are the worse of the two in a garden.

Yes' similur' same system, same conditionns. we still do not how they relate. Snails take three years to develop a firm shell, but slugs seem to have the open hand. They can prey on anything new and devastate the crop.
slugs & snails use the same sort of refuge, so it;s down to yo u &I to keep your plot clear. Salt works well, but so do are propriatory brands. They love Cool. dark, moist cxonditions, so that's where to mash them.Salt scattered around there source, not their outcome, will produce death outcomes, as will many propriatory, old & gardening solutions.
