So far this year, there have been 3145 total home runs hit in 1602 games, or 1.96 home runs per game. Each team, then, averages .98 home runs per game. This number is slightly over the historical average and below the past few years, but relatively in line with the post-1920 era.

For the last full season (2006), American League teams hit a combined average of 2.24 home runs per game, while National League teams were at 2.20.

The slight difference in favor of the AL probably has more to do with the DH than with poorer pitching. This average of about 2.2 has held steady for about the past five seasons.

About one per game for each team. Most teams will hit around 150 to 200 per year and it is a 162 game schedule.
