It's funny how Tom Hicks was criticized for spending too much money around the time he signed Alex Rodriguez, Chan Ho Park, and Todd Van Poppel. Now that he is trying to build through the farm system, he is criticized for not spending enough.

I am no Hicks fan. I think he is an arrogant (see his remarks about fans of his soccer team vs. fans of his baseball and hockey teams) and incompetent owner. The Rangers problem has been one of always trying to retool rather than rebuild. Their drafts have been pitiful and their trades horrible.

But to say they don't want to win or they just want to get rid of good players is ludicrous. Hart was the epitome of incompetence. He traded Hafner for a bag of used batting practice balls. He signed players for big money even though they were no where near worthy of the dollars (see Gonzalez, Juan; Van Poppel, Todd; and Park, Chan Ho).

The Rangers are now trying to recover from the bad choices Hicks and Hart made for about 5 years. Jon Daniels has made some bad trades, but he is still young and learning. The trades he made this year in dumping players that either wouldn't be back or had turned into clubhouse malcontents (Tex) will turn out to be good ones, IMO.

The good new is that if JD continues on this path and Hicks is willing to open his pocket book a little this offseason and next, the Rangers should be contenders in 2009. The Rangers look like they could afford to sign Torii Hunter this year and hopefully Johan Santana (*gasp*) next year. If the Rangers talent-wise appear to be close to championship level, I think Hicks would be willing to fork out a bunch of cash for a top free agent or 2.

Our management is a bunch of morons & our pitching sucks! Our problem is we're still paying for players we don't have. We have almost no money thanks to paying for payrod. That was a horrible deal! We can't get good pitching since we have no money to spend on getting better or buying better pitchers.

We give away any great talent we get (Pudge!!!!!!) and I don't think our management cares. I believe JD did good getting us extra money from this trade. I can't wait to see how this turns out. Spend it wise this time, yeah?!?

edit: *edited after I could think more* I love the Rangers as much as the next person..more then likely even more. We've haven't had a winning season in year! I can barely remember us winning the division the last time.

Rangers fans have to take a long and hard look at ownership and management. Until ownership makes the decision that they want to field a winner, and are willing to spend money to get there, the Rangers will always be a second division team with no shot at the playoffs. It is really too bad because Texas has great baseball fans.

They weren't going to win a world series this year or next year, so they traded away players that were going to end up leaving through free agency, and got guys back for them that will be able to give them the best chance at winning a world series in the future. They got two good prospects in Salty, and Gabbard.

Wasting a few years with Hart as GM didn't help matters. I'm not sure about Daniels yet, willing to see him go another season, but it's not too encouraging yet. GET SOME PITCHING, and not the sort of scrap heaps pickups Melvin and Hart used to sign. Fire all the pitching coaches at every level.

It seems like they don't want to win. They spend millions on players i.e. A-Rod, Alfonso Soriano, and Juan Rodriguez and then ending up either trading or waiving them and end up paying their salary when they are playing for another team (this is occuring right now with A-Rod). Now players like Mark Teixera don't want to play for them. He was offered 140 million over 8 years to stay and he declined and instead was traded to the Atlanta Braves. I wish the owner of the Twins was willing to spend that much to win.

Yeah, I've been frusterated too. We've been rebuilding for several years now. We build good players and then let them go for more prospects. The management just doesn't want to keep the good players. I don't understand it.

Relax Jena our time is coming. Jon "Boy" Daniels actually is making good trades for them for the future we jus have to be a little bit more patient.

They are the AAA of the majors. Just a stop off for bigger and better teams.

It's pretty obvious they have an ownership that could care less about the team & their fanbase.
