Reading the actual alchemical treatises makes it obvious that the True Philosopher's Stone is the human mind and that the complicated chemical activities required to obtain and use it are in fact a code for certain mental and physical exercises intended to open the mind to higher functions.
Therefore, when found, you're stuck with it because it's part of you. But sharing the insights you have become capable of understanding would be a nice thing to do. It'll probably get you stoned in the end, but..... it's still a nice thing to do.

The Philosopher's Stone as understood by those who do not posses it, is an item which can prolong life indefinitely and change base metals into gold.
To anyone who does posses it, it is not a matter of keeping it a secret or sharing it. It is a matter of incorporating it into one life and that cannot be hidden.
If you wish to consider a fictional "Philosopher's Stone" which could be hidden or shared, I would share it with the world. What better use could one find?

The Philosopher's Stone is what the alchemist becomes upon becoming enlightened through the discipline of alchemy. It is not a thing that is produced or found. It is a cryptic term related to the idea of self-transformation.

Such a thing does not exist, but if it did, and I found it, I'd keep it to myself. No one can be trusted very far with such a thing that can turn lead into gold or make a man immortal. It'd cause chaos.

I have access to it but it has to be used with discernment. I mean if you changed too much base metal into gold, the base metal would be worth more because IT would now be scarce. Too much for some people to handle.:)

Very good question. And one I couldn't answer. With it comes such a high level of responsibility that I don't know who could be entrusted with it. And I don't believe I would want to take it upon myself.

Proabaly keep it to myself with instructions in a will to explain how to use it in case of my death.
To many greedy people out there would fight over it, wars have been started for less reason.
