Can I use something around the home to refill my "Zippo" that won't be a health hazard, and won't ruin the lighter itself?

Anything flammable can be a health hazard. But I've used naptha in my zippo, it's the same thing as their fuel and cheaper if you get it by the quart in a hardware store.

Zippo fuel is naptha, or sometimes called benzine. You can get it at a paint or hardware store, way cheaper than Zippo brand.

The problem with alcohol is that you can't see the flame, thus creating a hazard to your nose and eyes and hair.

Gasoline is just nuts. You would be hard pressed to find anything more toxic and explosive than gasoline.

Any lighter fluid will do. So will white gas. All of it is a health hazard if you drink it, or take a bath in it, or pour it on yourself and light it.

I can't help thinking a zippo lighter lights cigarettes, cigars, or other smokable materials. Unless you are using your lighter to light a barbeque, the health hazards of the fuel are a lot less than the smoking.

White gas (e.g., Coleman fuel). Be careful though, or you'll set yourself aflame! You might also consider liquid Sterno.

I believe all lighter fluid is made of is liquid butane. So all you really would need to get is liquid butane. You don't have to get it specifically off of Zippo.
