Sociotal Norms are simply that. What is normal in our society.
E.G. in America it is normal for people to wear clothes. It is expected of people. If a person walked around naked everywhere they would be violating the social norm.
However, violating the social norm is not always a bad thing. It's how we got womens rights, and african-american rights and if you were born in the 70's or later you have the chance to witness gay rights coming into thier own. It used to be a violation of the social norm to be publicly gay. That is changing now.
As I stated, it is simply what is normal and expected in a society.

i think of it as the expectations that are set for the citizens in a society. The expectations can be set by relgious groups, politians ect in the ways of laws and religious teachings. Expectations and 'norms' can differ depending on religion, class and race because of stereotype where people assume certain people act a certain way e.g when ever i see american programmes featuring guns or other crime they are always showing black people, which could lead (often ignorant) people to assum that black kids are thugs because that is what society expects of them.
I also think of 'norms of society' as setting boudries regarding to what people can and cannot do. Again religion and Politics and good examples of this because most religions have speicif rules such as 'no sex before marriage' and people who break these rules are frownd upon and are not acting within the 'norms' of that society. Also the Law sets and inforces rules and boundries.

This is easy. You don't know what norms mean? Saying "norms of society" is like saying "what is normal behavior in a society?" An example of this would be this answer: In poorer neighborhoods crime is more prevalent.

In organizational behavior and most of the social sciences, norms are simply the rules of behavior in a group.
Norms are based upon values and can be either formal written rules of behavior such as laws or unwritten rules such as how we dress at this job.

More or less it's the population of society who don't cause waves when it comes to rules and regulations. People that follow the laws of the land, and live a structured day to day life. -- In other words, BORRR ing......j/k!
