I have 3 fantail godfish inside the tank. Someone has told me that an air pump provides a better environment for the fish. The tank is situated in my room so the pump must be rather silent and not have that irritating humming noise. I can withstand the filter noise but anything worse drives me crazy!
What do you suggest?

Assuming you have a fuilter on the tank, an air pump is not needed and to be honest will serve no purpose except decoration.

from my experience air pumps really do help. try to get a bubble wand, they look good and they really circulate the water very well which helps keep the water cleaner. if the pump is too loud try putting a rag underneath it, this will help the vibration
