Newest Dell D620 Laptops and other Dell laptops display on DLP, LCD projectors in a squared form, not filling the screen. With resolution changes and refresh rate changes, I can only get the entire desktop to display on settings that end up making the image tiny, also not filling the screen. The old Dell Laptops required only a function-F8 to get the image up on the screen, and if that didn't work, you just dropped the resolution to 1024x768 and that fixed it. We run our projectors in integrated office settings with extron switching and AMX control systems. There is something different with these newer models. Dell support was a joke and no help whatsoever. If your issue doesn't fit in their "help manual" in Mumbai, you get no support. ZERO thinking out of the box with them. Any help is appreciated if you have had this issue and have the solution.

The solution that we use for the site I support is to set up the projector as a second monitor, and to "extend the desktop" on to the monitor. This allows you to set a separate resolution and ratio for the projector.

The disadvantage is that because it is an extended desktop, it does not display the same thing as your primary display. You may have to "drag" the presentation to the second desktop to display it. It is a little awkward until you get use to the second display. But it gives a better picture.
