What makes you think that slavery is a thing of the past? Yes we did abolish the transatlantic slave trade but millions of people around the world still live in slavery.

I'm not sure what your question is but, slavery is certainly an evil institution. No one has the right to "own" another person. Unfortunately, slavery still exists - particularly in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Only YOU can emancipate yourself from slavery (the type I THINK you're referring to). As long as you buy into the notion that an African American is a lesser form of life - you will continue to be enslaved - by yourself. Assuming you ARE an African American, of course. To me, you would simply be an American and that is how you should think of, and present yourself to the World.

Would you really like to hear from me?
Or will you give me thumbs down, since I agree with Roz?
Saudi Arabia officially abolished slavery in - - 1962. That's nearly one hundred years after the United States of America did. But, to get to the point, I suggest you take a look at the link Roz posted, and the link for Human Rights Watch too.

It is a sad commentary on the religions of the World that they took so long to speak out against Slavery. In America the Churches alowed Slavery to take Root and those first Church leaders to speak out against the practice found themselves branded as heretics and radicals. Even after Emancipation churches across the nation enforced segregation and too this day the KKK boasts of having the highest church memebership & attendence among 'fraternal' orders.

Yes work remains to be done, there is still trafficking in human beings and wage slavery is often as bad as chattel slavery. As for freeing oneself from mental slavery - - - that can only be done from within.

It was a bad..their wasn't any thought out plane on how the people would take care of themselves...most ended up still living on plantations in the same dilapidated building and conditions..but only as share croppers...and even then they were paid minimally.
Blacks were well hated and extremely segregated....not because of racism, but because it was culturally acceptable.
Today even with laws and cultural changes for them to advance...some choose to live in poverty and blame racism...when in fact it's really stereotyping them into a group that became drug dealers and gang members.
What they need to do is go after those that make them look bad(like rappers) and stop blaming racism.
They young to day do not know the term racism or what it is...they should ask their grandparents what it really is...and start embracing those that have become successful instead of playing the victim and follow those that demean their race to looking like thugs.
