My husband and I deal in gems and minerals, and have been attending an outdoor gem and mineral show in the NC Mountains. We have a Tent (10x10 vending tent) set up which is really shady and 2 fans blowing. It has gotten up to around 80-85 degrees in mid afternoon, and I have had my 3 month old daughter with us. She seems fine... No sweat or red cheeks, just a little more sleepy than usual. I also take her into an A/C car to nurse. Some of the older people keep telling me it's too hot out here for her and to take her home.My hubbies aunt is a pediatric nurse. She says it's OK. Please give me your input. (We put her portable swing under the tent too... She seems fine.

The general rule of thumb is: "If YOU'RE comfortable, so is baby!" Besides, 80-85 degrees is a WHOLE lot cooler than where she USED to be (in 98.6 degree 'weather'). Pay no mind to the elderly women . . . most of what they learned or were taught - in regards to caring for infants - has been deemed (and some proven) as "Old Wives' Tale".

Babies are far more suseptable to heat than we are, just because they dont cool as easily with all those fat rolls and such a tiny system.

Not to mention at three months she's always in contact with something against her body, the swing, the floor, or your body.

I would just keep a thin cotton shirt on her, and watch her for heat rash.

My son was out in 20 degree weather with 15 MPH winds the week i brought him home, and since then he's been out every day in all sorts of weather. Ive found he gets a heat rash really easily, but keeping clothes on him, and keep him highly hydrated seems to help.

She's fine. If youre cool enough, she's cool enough. Just keep her super hydrated.

As long as she is not sitting directly under the sun and with it being 80-85 that is not to hot really and as lyou said you got fans blowing which helps. My biggest thing would be is liquids. Don't listen to others Your mom you know what your doing. I get the same crap some times from all the old people around me.

Q: She may b sleeping more bcuz of the heat but i think that back in the day there was no A/C .....how did they manage then?

A: Because they didn't have Global Warming back then from the excessive use of power. Such as gas being used to travel to conventions and 2 fans to cool your tent which is in the shade down.

But other than that I think your baby should be fine. If you see any problems make sure to check them ASAP.
