Immigrants who came to the USA or Canada between say, 1930 to about the mid-70's exemplify conformance. They understood that they were adopting a new culture, not strictly bringing their old one to a new country. They learned the customs, nuances and most importantly became fluent in the new native language. (English in the case of the USA)
Some examples that lie in contrast to conformance, (or only partial conformance) would be the many Mexican immigrants (some legal, some not) who never successfully learn the language. In many cases however they do espouse similar social and religious beliefs. Another example would be people of middle eastern descent. They usually do very well with the language aspect, but never successfully integrate from a social perspective because they seldom espouse the Christian principles that (the USA in this case) the country was founded on.
So, there are some examples of conforming and not conforming. Celebrating diversity is divisive. Instead celebrate assimilation.

Joining the armed forces-- esp. boot camp. They take a bunch of people from all sorts of different backgrounds and turn them into like-minded group trying to achieve a common goal. They are forced to conform so this is a kind of extreme example. But any kind of sports team conforms to the coaches game plan even though they might not agree with it.

A good example is you will do anything to fit in or have friends or be part of the pathetic little circle. That's conforming. Even if it means following stupid rules and guidelines and doing as you are told by one and all.

Accepting values and ideas, regardless of wether you agree with them, in order to follow the crowd. ie. Wearing a certain brand of clothing just because that's what the rest of the in-crowd is wearing.
