Depression doesn't always last a lifetime, and there are meds to treat it, so Yes I would go out with someone who has suffered from depression. But, I will have to be honest and say, I might have second thoughts about it if the person had a much more serious form of mental illness.

I have, and maybe it's not a new relationship highlight, but a lot of people have suffered depression at some point ... it's a matter of severity. As long as you can be honest and tell the person of interest at some point before you're truly "steady" then I wouldn't see it as a problem. You would need to be honest to let the person be prepared to deal with the depression should it occur again. Also assuming you have gone thru treatments and feel trusting enough to not deny treatment in the future. It's not easy but it's certainly a workable situation.

I think it's more important to look at the person's current mental status. I mean, someone with Schizophrenia will inevidably always have some sort of issue with the disease - that wouldn't be ideal for me personally. But if they suffer from depression but have control over it and live a normal life, I'd be fine with that.
I do think it's important to be honest about it so that if you have a major depressive episode they aren't caught off guard.

I think that it is fine. I have deppresion as well and major anxiety but my medicin helps. My deppresion really gets in the way of having a relationshop. I would go out with someone who had a mental illness because I know what it is like.

Yeah, sure... so long as it isn't a history of violent mental illness then I don't see it as a problem. I think it is probably best to wait until things get past the initial stage, and then tell your partner... they would be more upset not to know...

Well it depends. After me and my ex broke up he became depressed and even suicidal. So Iwould definitely want to know if you're okay now and if you're taking medication. But I don't think you should tell someone on a first date because there must be lots more fun things to talk about, right?

Well I think that the majority of the public has had some kind of mental defect or illness. Heck, as long as they don't hurt me, or themself or others then I would go out w/them.

Yes, I would. We all have had a bit of depression in our lives. I take a pill for it! It works! Not to worry. Someone that really likes you won't care!
