8v is far better for town work and lots cheaper to repair if it goes wrong.

For town driving, the 8v might be better, because there is a bit more torque lower down the rev range, so you won't need to rev the nuts off it.
Even better, go for the diesel.

The simpler one canshaft engine with 8 valves will do nicely. If you like merging onto the motorway at full throttle get the DOHC 16 valve engine.

the 16v is a performance car and very efficient and more costly.the 8v is ideal for town driving. insurance is more for16v.

16v, the engine run's better, and is therefore more economical, not to mention slightly faster, the insurance is pretty much the same, as is the tax class.
If there's an eco version (similar to my friends Diesel Astra), look for one, the tax is verly low.
