No. Depending on the ethnicity and culture of my hosts, I might realize I was visiting either people very different from me or total weirdos. Or someone with new white carpet.

Hmm.
If entering a swimming pool, then no ;)
Sorry, if you mean entering someone's home, then I would not feel offenced to be asked to remove shoes - especially if they have a very light carpet etc - if they wanted me to remove my socks too, I would start to wonder if there might be a bit of a foot fetish going on :)
Mind you, if they have nice feet, I might be quite happy to go along with the scheme - though I suspect a lot of people would feel a bit thrown - and quite possible refuse / not come back.

i would not be offended. I'd think they were loco or something but I do have the choice of whether to do it or not. I went to a friends house in college for a study session and was told to remove my shoes. I didn't want to and I politely told her so. She respected it and I studied on my own.
so don't be offended if you're visiting their house. I also don't go eat at restaurants that have you do that. It's a personal thing.

No, i don't get indignant. I carry extra advantageous socks or slippers with me so i will get rid of my shoes if asked and not be barefoot in somebody's abode. i've got not got a shoes rule in my abode. i opt for my travellers to be comfortable and if which ability shoes on, high quality. If which ability shoes off, that's high quality besides.

Oh, don't come to my house. EVERYONE has to remove their shoes before entering. However, I do provide clean socks at the door. (White Carpet)

no, it is a custom in the east (especially India) to enter the house/church/temple/mosque barefoot. it would be an insult to them if you wear your shoes and get inside. similarly, you can see many of the martial arts and traditional dances are also performed barefoot. but then it all depends from which part of the world you are from.

No.... lots of people ask others to take off their shoes and socks before entering their house... they could be house proud, or it could be something to do with their religion...

not at all, in some cultures it is very disrespectful to enter a house with your shoes on, and also if someone has spent a fortune on new carpet they might not want your grubby shoes trampling all over it either!

I'd think they were joking if they asked me; I'm always barefoot in the first place so I have nothing to take off :) If they had a no-outdoor-footwear rule I'd gladly wash my feet but I can't take off shoes I'm not wearing!

No, because in Asian culture it is against the ettiqutte to wear shoes in the house. And if someone is visiting an Asian household, they should respect that.
