80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

well, for every one, the meaning of life si different. i will answer this by saying something i heard in a national discovery subject which is: sex as an essential factor in the reproduction of human life. they say that the real meaning of life is to make more life. i think that life's purpose depends on the person perspective of worthiness of life, especially his/her. meaning of life will be unclear if one is not sure of what he/she wants in life. when you find the thing you want the most, the thing you desire the most, then you can give meaning to your life. the meaning of life for me is to continually give justification to my existence by doing things i am supposed to do, given the influence of my family, friends, and the society. but it doesn't mean that my life is controlled or dicxtated by them; they only influence my thinking, but not my decision-making. i live in God's law, therefore life was given meaning by God initially, but i live by my own rules, therefore finally giving meaning to my life. =)

No two people are really that much alike, so you have to get different means: Life for me is spirit/warmth for others/growth. I've set my standers, for me to have quality conditions so I can grow.

The question: what is the meaning (aka purpose) of life, begs the reply...meaning for whom? The meaning of life, the purpose for you, is your own happiness.
