A sincere kind word will always be better than a smile.
Strangers may smile at you but it may mean nothing to them. Some acquaintances may also smile at you, but stab you at your back. A kind word is better because you can gauge the sincerity of the person by the way he says a word, and kind words uplifts the soul.
