What makes John Scheurholz such a good general manager?

He makes deals look so easy to do.

He plays his cards close to his vest. You almost never even hear rumors on one of his trades and when it's announced, it's like whoa - where did that come from. The Mark Teixeira/Jarrod Saltalamccchia deal is the only deal in recent times I can remember rumors of, Octavio Dotel's deal was speculated on but it is easy to speculate nowadays with the internet. Usually the specifics of the deal never come out.

3 more characteristics that make him so good. He is a great judge of talent and really is great at determining what the desired player can do for the Braves, Second, he doesn't value his players more than the other owners do. He knows their exact value. (ever have a fantasy owner offer you a .250 hitter with 6 HR, 29 RBI for a "stud" hitting .313 with 17 HR, 48 RBI, 12 SB and seriously think you could find it a sweet deal. They just overvalue their own players). The other thing he does is judge their character and ability to fit in with his team. You never see him trading for a Milton Bradley type that is trouble in the clubhouse or a Randy Moss (I know, I know he's football but a great example) who goes all out only when he wants to.

All that being said, I really feel that they need another SP badly this season. Much worse than a set-up man (Dotel). Sheurholz passed on the SP so either the right one couldn't be had or I'm wrong in my evaluation. I'm Barry, he's John Sheurholz. You just can't second-guess him!
