I think it is deteriorating at a rather fast speed. Especially public schools, largely due to lack of funding.

I notice, too, that even the private "Ivy League" schools have slackened. I was interviewing graduates of La Salle and Ateneo, expecting that they would at the very least have a good command of English. I was so disappointed that more than 50% of the applicants can speak "impressive" English but suffer badly in written English. The test "reports" I asked them to do were littered with grammatical errors. And these errors included the basics - - - like agreement between subject and predicate, as well as verbs expressed in past tense, future tense, etc. Unbelievable, in fact.

it's so sad to hear the truth but in some areas it's worst...especially those in Provinces..I've been in school both in province and city,I can compare the differences...there are some teachers who don't care about professionalism..they just let their students/pupils to go outside for gardening and then they just stay inside the classroom and make huntahan [chatting] with their co- teachers...there's one thing that is common though between city teachers compare to the ones in the province..they both sell something for sidecash..haiii kahirapan nga naman...[sigh... yes poverty].But I know there are still good schools that are really excellent in their performances,I wish our government will be more concern about this issue..,in my own opinion excellent education is the only key to diminish or at least lessen the corruption in the Philippines

Philippine education, in terms of the government's support to educational venture, is not going so well. For one, it was an audacious move to increase the tuition fees of some state univeristies just because they felt that we need more facilities. What the students need is support, not more expenses.

In terms of the students, Filipinos are naturally smart. ^_~ And so, no amount of letdowns could change that. :D
