I don't normally see plays and movies and TV shows just because a certain actor is in it. Alan Alda is the one exception. A couple of years ago to a trip to New York City, my husband and I saw "Glen Gary Glen Ross" just because Mr. Alda was in it. I didn't care for the for the story, but it was made better because Mr. Alda was in it. (It's the only Broadway play I have seen that I've not liked.)
The thing about the TV show "M*A*S*H" is that the comedy is classic and has not only transcended countries, as already been said, but generations as well. Good, clean comedy that seems to be lost with many of the "comedies" that are currently being shown on network TV. (I watch some of them and think that if it weren't classified as comedy, and/or no laugh track, then I wouldn't know it was supposed to be funny.)
Also, as been said, they did quite well with altering back and forth between comedy and drama. The dramatic episodes (which were good to help show the realities of war) were also very well done, showing the actors' depth.
I think many of them didn't do much after the show might have been, in part, because they got type casted. However, I have seen Mr. Alda in other things (he did a movie with Woody Allen, and a campy comedy where he plays the US President and tires to declare war on Canada) as well as some of the other actors. Nothing major, I don't think, but mostly bit parts.

I am not a big fan of MASH. I liked it back in the day, but I can't watch it anymore. Alan Alda looks too much like a praying mantis for me to take him seriously.

MASH was very well done, it walked a fine line between comedy and drama (though it started to lean alot more toward drama at the end.) Alan Alda was very talented and I wish he had been more ambitious after the series ended.

I thought it was good, but the reason most of those actors never did anything afterwards, was because they all got fantastically rich from the series, particularly Alda.
