1Gb 400mhz+512mb 200mhz had the advantage of multi-tasking, while 1Gb 400mhz alone had the advantage of speed. so what do you want?

Not really. As most people will never notice the performance drop because the computer is running on a slower RAM speed due to a slow RAM. Only benchmarking programs would see a speed difference.

Even if you're playing games, you'd never notice the speed degration, it would even be generally faster since you have more RAM in your system.

Your PC should run faster with the 1Gb ddr400.

When you put 2 ram sticks with different speeds, BIOS will always synchronize the speed to that of the slowest, which is 200mhz in your case.

If you have a It depends on your motherboard. If you have four slots for the ram put the first in the slot close to the CPU and skip a slot and place the other. It should work fine. but if you have only two slots then it depends on the speed of the ram that the board supports.
