I second the Bach Rescue Remedy suggestion for when you start to feel overwhelmed with worry/anxiety/fear/etc.

I've suffered from severe acute panic and anxiety disorders most of my life, and for many years was taking large and frequent doses of tranquilizers just to make it through the day. I was also on other meds and had been through courses of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (which is also highly recommend if you have a chronic anxiety issue). Rescue Remedy replaced all my sedatives and tranquilizers.

For a general lingering state of low-level anxiety you may need to try something else to augment it. I've found other flower remedies to be great for this. Some you can try are lavendar, and red chestnut from http://www.fesflowers.com, lettuce from http://www.mastersessences.com, or aspen, cherry plum, crab apple, elm, gentian, gorse, heather, honeysuckle, mustard, olive, or scleranthus from the Bach line. You would also have great luck with one of the wonderful combination essences from the amazing Australian Bush Flower Essence line, such as Calm and Clear, Dynamis, or Confid blends available from http://www.ausflowers.com.au/. You'll need to read the descriptions of each of these to see which applies most to you. You could also find a flower essence practitioner near you.

If you need to maintain a general state of calm, chamomile tea is great. Kava kava supplements and tea are also wonderful. You can try skullcap, catnip and damiana mixes as well. Generally, I find chamomile works best for me.

Diffusing lavendar and other calming essential oils (not synthetic fragrance oils), like sandalwood can also work wonders.

Try to get into some simple meditation practice each day. Buddhist Mindfulness techniques are WONDERFUL. You can find a fantastic outline for some, with guided audio meditations at http://www.wildmind.org/mindfulness/. That also helps alot.

yes, you can take any of these depending on the severity):
(from good health shops):
Hypericum Complex or Ginsavena by Dr A Vogel
(but be careful with Ginsavena, it shouldn't be taken more than 3 months, & people on heart medication, hormonal medication, diabetics or epileptics or schizophrenics should avoid it.)

you must take B complex vitamins, it will help you alot as B vitamins are important for the functioning of nervous system,
or take a multi-vitamin, I used to think this wan'r important, but since I have been taking vitamins, I have been alot better in my moods & general health. ( I tested this by not taking them for 2 weeks & I noticed the difference)!
(a good one to try is 7 Seas MultiBionta I think Asda sells it)..

also, driking as much water as you can is important.

celestial seasonings makes a great line of teas. don't forget a little bit of milk fat in your diet, it helps with the mylen sheath of the nerves (u of M doc told me that once) and go to a health food store for the proper vitamin mixture. B vitamins are beneficial 6&12 especially. your doc can prescribe a vit. called folgard2.2, great stuff!

I found that drinking Xango juice may help. Xango juice is delicious and contains the whole magosteen fruit. The whole mangosteen fruit (as found in Xango Juice) is the source of dozens of different xanthones. Xanthones are a family of vigorous phtonutrients with powerful antioxidant properties that inhibit oxidation and help protect cells against the harmful effects of free radicals.
*Free radicals can be the cause of your "bad nerves".

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.

Bach's rescue remedy. This is fantastic and is a tincture of flowers essences. It comes in a handy oral spray or drops from boots or other herbalists. Hope this helps, xxx

There are various things that will suppress the symptoms. Relaxation exercises are the most effective.

The cause is likely to be that there are unresolved issues in your life. If you want to be free of "nerves" you need to address them. Counselling can help.
