Actually they have told us what they want - us out of the Persian Gulf. The jealous of our lifestyle/freedom/wealth whatever was just made up by neo-cons so they could continue trying to take over the world's primary sources of oil.
The argument is so stupid it defies belief (if they are jealous of our lifestyle why destroy it - why not just move here and live it or at worst replicate it).

Well, terrorism is mainly used as an act to cause panic and mass hysteria. What better place to do this than a public area filled with average Joe's. Will terrorist target an average Joe specifically? No. Will they target places you visit or work? Yes.
Terrorist cannot get the degree of attention they want by targeting individuals (with the anthrax case targeting certain individuals in a Government area) Although the anthrax incident did spread U.S. wide hysteria. I know this because I work in law enforcement and everyone called about every piece of junk mail they received.
What most people see as our current terrorist threat, Middle Eastern, is all based on religious beliefs. I have read several good books, recently one on what the qu'aran really teaches about Christianity. This particular book was written by a former professor who taught the qu'aran and converted to Christianity because of what was believed as law in the Muslim religion. One thing they are jealous of is our lifestyle and open mindness as Americans. So, no, they attack you specifically, they attack based on hate and rage based on the fact that we don't think and live like they do.

OBL is considered as the biggest terrorist.
He was, and probabbly still is, a billionaire.
He can adopt/buy any life style.
So why he and his comrades be jealous of average joe.
What all he has demanded that western forces be out of middle east, especially suadi arabia. For this, he has given away his freedom and everything. Is this jealousy?
If North Korea puts his forces in USA, control your policies and eat up your resources, what average Joe will do????

Hope terrorists aren't jelous of us how could they be and I agree with why would they after unimportant people like you and me. Terrorists are opportunistic and plan everything before they go ahead and attack thats what happened with some of the so called terrorists here in the UK they planned so much that they became known to MI5 and thats how they got caught some do slip throught the net and actually succeed. Saying that they are jealous of you is just a political way of keeping you in check. Bush's way of keeping you on the hop keeping the American people paranoid.

Absolutely. It's also a brilliant distraction from the reasons why someone would choose to attack the U.S. in the first place. Islamic extremists are acting AGAINST the imposition of U.S. politics and culture into their lives. They aren't jealous -- they don't want any of it.
They also don't want the U.S. choosing who is going to rule their countries and keeping despotic and hated rulers in power (i.e. the House of Saud).
When Fox News and the like chant 'jealous of our lifestyles' (or the close substitute 'they hate us'), they hide the real reasons. They also keep the U.S. public convinced that they have a lifestyle that deserves jealousy. There are other, saner ways to live. Which is exactly what your employers and government hope you never ever realise.

i have never heard that they are killing people because they are jealous of our life style...in fact, they consider us to all to be 'Satan' and our live style decedent.
their religions dictates that they destroy all who will not bow to Mohammad and acknowledge the 'true' religion. it is their religions imperative to kill all others. They would have us go back to the 7th century, if they could.
they would have everyone subjected to shaia laws, where the religious leaders also head of the government.
they make no distinction between what you call 'important' or the average Joe...we are all their enemies.
i am not sure what you are really asking..are you a sympathizer or upset they aren't killing more heads of state..they would if they could, but you will do until then.

They don't hate our freedom, that's patronizing tripe that we're being fed. The middle east is very, very rooted in the past and still have scars from things we don't even study in school any more. Many fundamentalists believe the crusades never ended, and grew up knowing nothing but "Fight the West."
I don't think we'll ever fully understand the mind-set of terrorists, but that doesn't give me any sympathy for them. They want to hurt us, well the US is very adept at hurting them back. :)

I don't think they are jealous of our lifestyle, they don't like our lifestyle. Most of these terrorists are extremists who think we should be living they way they did back when Islam controlled most of the world. Not slamming Muslims here, not your fault there are crazies that pervert your religion. We Christians have them as well.
Most of these terrorist want things to be the way they were in Afghanistan when the Taliban ruled. They don't like the fact that women in the western world can live as they please and vote and take part in government, even leading a country.

No; they are upset that western civilization has surpassed Islamic civilization (it was once number one). They are upset that government and religion are separated. They are upset that the GNP of all Islamic states combined is barely equal to that of Spain. Basically, they are upset that it is no longer the early Middle Ages. But they are not jealous as they want to destroy western civilization not co-opt it and replace it with the way things were done a long time ago.

Yep that's a crock alright. The brilliant writer Chalmers Johnson (Nemesis) points out that OBL never said they were jealous of us. It was the sanctions put on Iraq, what they feel is a sway toward Israel, and how we jilted them after Afghan plus he resented our guarding their holy places in S.A.
This jargon tends to put the blame on them.
