I swear to God a third of the girls at my job are gay. What's going on!?

Question

The particular demographic I'm addressing, African-American females under 25 or so, seems to be experiencing an explosion of ....uh, well..... for want of a better term...'gayness'.
Many are of that androgenous, not-quite-sure what they are variety, many aren't. I was looking at one girl, and though I knew intellectually it was a female everything about her on that subliminal, non-verbal communication level screamed 'horny teenage boy'. I have nothing against gay people, it's just the numbers in this particular sub-group have really caught me by surprise. Unfortunately, young black females is demographic that doesn't get much scrutiny social science-wise, or else this trend would have obvious earlier. I can't help but think that part of it is due to the decimation of generations of young black *men* from poverty, crime, drugs, and disease. Could this be an evolutionary niche being created, which some females are now filling? May sound crazy but think about what happens in prison...

I suspected i'd get some responses like this. It's not just my job, the job thing got me looking around more and seeing more. I've always (perhaps mistakenly) thought of gays as making up about 5-6% of the population. Please don't try to throw some homophobia guilt-trip on me. You don't who i am!

Just treat them like normal. I have seen girls like this before, and you don't want to insult any girls like this. I know.

As a therapist I get a few revolutionary ideas from time to time. Look up Freud's term "polymorphously perverse" and apply it to a culture that glamorizes homosexuality. I am gay, myself - but understand your thoughts.

what makes you think this is only happening with African Americans... this world is going mad... think of the last 3000 years of humanity's existence... there certainly has never been times like this... sin is in....people have lost their ways... many have eyes but they cannot see, many have ears but they do not hear

IMO, homosexual isn't something by choice. A lesbian female living with a 100 prince will still remain a lesbian. A straight woman will still be straight even if all guys got sent to prison or die of drugs.

I think that's just a really judgemental thing to say.
I mean how do you really know? Just because you know a few people like that, doesn't mean anything in terms of figures.

Firstly, you don't have to swear to God in order for people to believe you, for nowadays, telling lies is the Most important character a leader must be able to possess. But i believe you!
Secondly, you are entitled for whatever observation you may have concerning your school environment. That's your right to your self, but never, never a right to be judgemental to a collective thinking about these ladies.
Thirdly, try to evaluate your own position about them. Does their behavior affects you, no matter how discreet or open they may be? Or even suprising just in case you got to know that this or that lady is very demure and naive-looking turns out to be gay.
People cope with difficulties in life in a wide variety of manners. We just don't know to what kinds of extreme physical and psychological and even social traumas these ladies may have been subjected to-in whatever manner, in whatever situation. But for sure, there are reasons for this. No person, whether male or female, really wanted to be gay-whether openly or discreetly. And nobody prayed for this role as a way of life. Unimaginable are the countless pains they experience, secretly or openly, due to this 'roles' they have, which really is increasingly in number, even affecting the highest offices in respectable positions.
But wait, the most important thing here is the attitude of other people. Those so called "normal" as defined by some sociologists, psychologists, and the other "ists", of course including us, and those who are also making observetion about this matter.
Attitude is something we give to punish other people, to make them suffer out of our contempt for their unbelievable preffered behavior. This is also the kind of attitude we give to restrain other peoples happiness, pushing them in one corner of the world, depriving them of the much needed compassion and acceptance. By accepteance, we dont submit to their private activities, but accept them as persons, as individuals who are also in need of some accepted understanding of their present dilemmas.
Value is also a concern. We must examine ourselves for the kind of value we give to these people, the kind of value we pass judgements to them. Only through these values we can measure our own selves, the parameter for our self-evaluation, for our own motives, for our existing belief in our God.
Lastly, if i may add: sometimes hostile attitude is but a cover up for an existing, latent 'tendency', which the conscious self is not yet ready to accept.
Whichever attitude we may be exhibiting right now-we have the obligation to examine them. We never like to injure other people because we have another set of connotations about a certain thing. Sometimes, we have to forgo something Not for the sake of other person, BUT for ouw own sakes!
