Every metal has it's own specific use. But iron is perhaps the most widely available metal on earth.Perhaps that's why we often refer to iron as the most important metal.But other metals are not least important either.Cu, Al also have vry important uses.

Most important for what?
For the human body is probably calcium. Calcium regulates heart rhythms (in the calcium channels in the heart muscle) and is required for good bone health, etc. Other metals are key for the human body as well, but without calcium -- you're dead.
Copper has been vitally important in the generation of electrical power and transmission of electricity with low(er) losses.
I guess my answer is that THE most important metal depends on what you are trying to do.
