Malaysia is heavily volcanic because the southwest Indian Ocean Ridge spreading center is pushing the Australian Plate northeastward against the Malay Peninsula.
The result is a subduction zone (called the Java Trench) off of the coast in which the Australian Plate seabed is diving under the crust of the Malay Peninsula into the mantle rock.
As the seabed rock melts, the lighter elements rise back to the surface and form volcanos, which form usually between 75-100 miles of the subduction zone.
This subduction zone is also causing the heavy earthquake activity in Indonesia, for when the diving crust slips into the mantle, it "locks" due to friction between the seabed and the crust above it. When the driving pressure overcomes the friction, the seabed plate suddenly moves, causing earthquakes.

Igneous rocks are from solidified molten lava. Malaysia is in an area surrounded by volcanoes, it could very possible be that some parts of Malaysia was in close proximity with volcanoes eons ago.
