I think it decreases your chances of success. If you take things too seriously then you are less likely to try something risky or unusual. Risk pays off and the unusual can be fun.

I joke about almost everything and find myself pleasantly loopy at work. If you are passing your classes, not drowning your liver, and getting positive feedback from your boss live and be happy! lol
What is there to take seriously anyway? Let God in control, and all you have to do is ride out the pot-holes best you can.
Being responsible is extremely important (sticking to a schedule)

IT DEFINITELY DECREASES YOUR CHANCES OF SUCCESS. A LITTLE IS VERY GOOD, BUT TOO SERIOUSLY IS TO CONSUMING AND CHANGES YOU. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY THEN YOU ARE NOT SUCCESSFUL.
