there is a sciencific theory that suggests there are an infinite number of universes. Each different to the other. It is a theory to understand young's two slit experiment. It you shine laser light through two very thin slits you get an interference pattern. The photons are interferning with each other. It you do the experiment one photon at a time and record where the photons go the interference pattern is still produced. The photon is interfering with itself. Or is it other photons in other universe that are splitting from ours but we cannot see those universes. in theory.

Personally, I believe this is a subject to be discussed over a glass of beer with the mates in the evening, as there is no way that we might find the answer in the near future.
At the present, we distinguish the universe from the so called "observable universe". The latter term referrs to the area of the Universe, that we may see using today's technology. Evidentally, the observable universe grows larger due to the technological progress on our planet. Yet, the question whether someday the observable Universe will equal the Universe remains to be seen.
There are several theories out there regarding the shape of our Universe, whether it is finite or not, when/how it began. Of course, there are some religious issues raised by these questions.
Among those theories is the one called "Multiverse", explaining the possibilities of some forms of multiverses.
The first link provided is a map of the Observable Universe, the second one will explain the Multiverse theory. Enjoy!

It's entirely probable that our universe IS unique...
Quantum Physics postulates that parallel universes exist but these parallel universes will be slightly different from ours.
Say you decide to wear red socks today instead of yellow socks.
In a parallel universe you have chosen the yellow socks over the red ones... You may have the same job, family and group of friends but this decision with your socks makes this universe different from the other one...

Theoretically, according to those who spend all their time thinking about such things, there are an infinite number of universes although whether we could ever pass from one to another seems very doubtful.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could find a universe where war is unknown and potential politicians are pilloried until they lose their political ambitions?

Our universe is the only one.
It is a finite entity that began sometime in the past and when it comes to an end it will never happen again!

nobody knows but i think it's plausible that there are more, when you get to the end or our universe chances are you going to be in a large open expanse of space, there's nothing to say that out there somewhere another big bang didn't happen and create another universe.
