I have either a nest or a cocoon in my garden. It is the size of a golf ball and has the appearance of a golf ball when the white exterior has been removed. It's grey and has a fine weave, perfectly smooth and round? can you help?

it's attached to some ivy that is hanging near the ground. There are too many culprits in my garden for me to point the finger...tried a line-up of the usual suspects and only managed to eliminate the wasp so far

Is this nest or coccon growing on a tree? There are these
caterpillars that make like a tent/ball/. It's hard to describe,
on the base of plants/trees. Have you seen any insect to
accompany this nest? Look up "tent cattarpillar".

It may be a Brown Tail Moth 'tent' it will contain 10-200 caterpillars which eat plant leafs. If it is do not touch it but call the council. These caterpillars have hairs all over them which are very irritant.

If there are no holes it could be a cocoon but they usually hang from something. It could also be a spider sack.

Is it on the ground? Could be puff-ball fungus.
