The best anti-virus is NOD32. It wins hands down and is the only anti-virus to achieve an advanced+ rating. If you don't believe it check out the AV Comparatives website, they run tests of all the major anti-virus software.

As for your firewall, I will also go with Sly Old Mole on this one and say Comodo is the best firewall.

Bit Defender used to come with a firewall. But if your on XP or better why?
Also if you have a router inline, why?

Mcafee. There are free anti-virus available online. I use Mcafee and pay for it and have a firewall.

zonealarm (best firewall) uses kaspersky anti-virus i beleive now so thats a good choice
