I sometimes like to read about some of the conspiracy stories that are out there, but last night I heard about the year 2012.
They said that the world is supposed to come to an end. So now ever since I heard this I have been thinking. I read a little about it, but decided not to freak myself out anymore than I already was.
Has anybody else heard about this????
Is anyone else kind of worried??????

There have been literally hundreds of predictions that the end of the world will occur on such and such a date, but still we stand, as most others have said in there answers this is the Mayans prediction or end of there calendar which could be interpreted as the end of the Earth. Below is an interesting web sit that i stumbled across a while back this web site lists about 15 prophecies from 2006 where the world should have ended also. The web site is listed as 15 FAILED PREDICTIONS THAT THE END
OF THE WORLD WOULD HAPPEN IN 2006.

I have heard about that theory - please forgive me cause I haven't read up on it for a little while, but its to do with the Mayan people from South America - there temples line up exactly with the Egyptian Pyramids, and they have this other really cool freaky stuff. But they also have this calendar and it is all mapped out until something like 20 Dec 2012.
There are people who believe that this is an important date - whether that is the last day of existence and things end after that day, or just the end of life as we know it and something different is going to take effect from 21st (sry if I have the date wrong). Doesn't mean the world will end, maybe there is going to be a new beginning or something.

the reason why the mayan calendar is said to "stop" on december 21, 2012 is because it starts the 13th bak'tun cycle. back then, 13 was considered an unlucky, satanic number, so they stopped their calendar there. oh and all those conspiracy stories, yeah. the people who made those were using hallucinogens and other drugs. look at how many "doomsday" predictions there have been in the past. i believe there was september 1987, but i wasnt alive yet, but now i am. did the world end in '87? NO. remember Y2K? all that stuff about the year 2000? did that happen? NO. remember 6-6-06? everyone thought something would happen on that day, right? hasnt it been over a year since that day happened? yeah. so, did 6-6-06 do anything? NO. you see, no one can predict the future. all those "psychics" are liars. they just make up stuff so people can live in fear. so dont believe any of these stories. the only thing thatll happen on december 21, 2012 is the winter solstice. nothing else.

Oh my gosh, I found out about it a couple nights ago too, and I spent half the night reading about so many different possiblities. Theres even going to be 2 movies out about it. But i was really freaked right away. But instead of keep worrying, a little bit of worry is okay, just try to accept that it could or could not end. the world could really come to an end any minute. so no person knows for sure what is going to happen. who knows, maybe the world wont come to an end, but something really huge could happen, that could change our planet forever. but i'd say just to be thankful for your life, and family everyday, and try not to take things for granted, and live your life to the fullest, so if the world does end you won't have anything to regret :)

The Mayan calendar is divided into Seven Ages of Man. The fourth epoch ended in August 1987. The Mayan calendar comes to an end on Sunday, December 23, 2012 and people have interpreted this to mean the Mayan's prediction of "the end of the world".

The truth is, while the Mayan calendar does indeed end in 2012 and their foretelling of the end is based on certain events predicted by them which we now know coincides with the (classified but now leaked release) about the (5.5 mile wide) Asteroid impact which is to take place on March 5, 2012 and which will send Earth off it's orbital track "around the Sun", and onto a new path directly "toward the Sun" where Earth and all it's inhabitants (that's you and me) will be destroyed as we enter the Sun's effect.

yeah december 21 2012 i believe.. it is all about the end of the myan calender.. the mayan were a very wise star gazing people who kept very percise records of the stars and for some unknow reason the caleder just ends on dec 21 2012?? no one knows why so of course with unknow there is fear.. and theories run wild.. i looked into it a bit and the best i found was that the earth and our solar system would somehow line up with our galaxys center which is supposed to symbolize something, like we are moving into a new age in our history or something like that.. its just a bug mystery but pretty intriguing.. i wouldnt worry too much, there are all kinds of world killers out there, but if it it was going to happen and no one could stop it, would you not want to be there to see it?? ill take my front row seat..

And why should you be worried?! It'll be just like dying & since thats doing to happen at some point to all of us, what is the point of worrying?! Just be a good girl, forgive those who have been nasty to you, take your Mum on shopping trips, chat with your Dad, help out at orphanages and you won't freak out anymore! All the best!

yes, the mayan doomsday calendar. now the only reason there is such a "prophecy" is because the calendar ends in that year. besides, even if it is true, there is nothing u can do about it.
