Do this problem logically

Take what you know, and put it back into the equation.
So you would rewrite it as such:
12=3x
Next divide both sides by 3
12/3=3x/3
Which Results in:
4=x

There ya go. Hope it helps

y=3x
or 3x=y
3x=12 (as y=12)
or x=12/3
x = 4
so x=4 is the answer

y=4

Repalce y with 12 you have 12=3x 12 / 3 = 4

You know y is equal in both cases. Since y=y, 3x = 12

3x = 12

Divide both sides by 3

x = 12/3
x=4

Is this true? We know y = 12. What is y when x = 4? y = 3(4)
y=12. Yep. X is indeed 4.

x=4

x=4
you can get that by simply replacing y with 12 in the first equation
so you get the first equation as 12=3x
on the right hand side 3 and x are being multiplied so when you take 3 on the left hand side the operation changes from multiplication to division and on the left hand side you divide 12 by 3 to get the equation as 4=x
