0.72 is just 72 divided by 100. 0.34 is just 34 divided by 100.

The easiest way is just to multiply 72 * 34, which gives you 2448, then divide by 100 twice (re-inserting the two factors of 1/100), leaving you with 0.2448.

To find 8/114 without a calculator, use long division. You should get 0.070175438596491228070175438596491, if you go on long enough.

What you do is you line up the decimal points and then multiply like normal. Once you're done multiplying, here's a trick: count the number of digits after the decimal for both numbers, that's how many places you need to go from the right to place the decimal:

.72 * .34 =
288 + 2160 = 2448

.72 >>> 2 places
.34 >>> 2 places >>> 4 places total:

2448 >>> 0.2448

For 8/114, you carry out long division as usual, but just keep on adding zeros on the end until it divides evenly or the decimals start repeating:

144| 8 = 0

144|80 = 0.0
144|800 = 0.07
144|20 = 0.070
144|200 = 0.0701 ....

And you keep going and going like the Energizer Bunny until you get the answer.
