I often see the letter "s" especially in hairs or cotton stuck to peoples clothes. I wondered if it was due to magnetic or static fields.

You know, this could be a symthom from your occipital neurocortex. I belive maybe this could be a part of a relation of a neurologic disease, but we should to know your age, and if you had an other symthom. In the psychiatric literature, it is discribed as a symthom fot the diagnosis of some kind of stress. Sorry, I need to know more data. Dr DÃaz-Arumir

It is more likely due to the function of your own brain. Humans are predisposed towards seeing familiar patterns when there is even a vague similarity in front of them.
