I often see the letter "s" especially in hairs or cotton stuck to peoples clothes. I wondered if it was due to magnetic or static fields.

You know, this could be a symthom from your occipital neurocortex. I belive maybe this could be a part of a relation of a neurologic disease, but we should to know your age, and if you had an other symthom. In the psychiatric literature, it is discribed as a symthom fot the diagnosis of some kind of stress. Sorry, I need to know more data. Dr Díaz-Arumir

It is more likely due to the function of your own brain. Humans are predisposed towards seeing familiar patterns when there is even a vague similarity in front of them.

simply bec you are preoccupied with finding S anywhere. that is part of mindsetting everytime you are about to approach an object.

Hmm.......... there is quite a complex reason for that. The magnetic resistance is prominent when the Earth's atmospheric changes are prevalent, around the central core of the sun.................................
