I think you substitue it into the a, but adding 3 into the a number being divide has me thrown off.

f(a + 3) = [ 2(a + 3) + 5 ] / [ a + 3 + 2 ]
f(a + 3) = (2a + 11) / (a + 5)

f(a+3) = [2(a+3) +5] / [a+3+2]

= 2a+6+5 / a+5

= 2a+11 /a+5

You are almost there, what you do is plug in the a+3 for x:

2(a+3)+5 / (a+3) +2 =
2a+11 / a+5

And that would be your answer.

You simply put (a+3) in x

f(a+3)= 2(a+3) + 5/(a+3) + 2 =
= [2(a+3)^2]/(a+3) + 5/(a+3) + 2(a+3)/(a+3) =
= [2a^2+12a+18+5+2a+6]/(a+3) =
= (2a^2+14a+29)/(a+3) =
= 2(a+5)(a+2)/(a+3).

2(a+3) + 5 / (a+3) +2

= 2a + 6 + 5/(a+3) + 2

= 2a + 5/(a+3) + 8

i hope that's what you were looking for??

replace x with (a +3)

f(x) = 2 ( a + 3 ) + 5
--------------------
( a + 3 ) + 2

= 2a + 6 + 5
----------------
a + 5

= 2a + 11
-----------
a + 5
