John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
Three of the four have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their solo careers, Lennon in '94, McCartney in '99, and Harrison in '04.
So based on their solo careers only, who do you think was the best musician and who was the worst?
For me it'd be:
1. John Lennon. His work in the Beatles was excellent, but solo, he's just incredible. His lyrics are so deep and clever, and he can create great melodies.
2. George Harrison. He was underrated as a guitarist, but he had a pretty successful solo career. I love his solo songs.
3. Paul McCartney. He was good in the Beatles, creating simple but melodic tunes, but as a solo artist, he began to decline. I don't care if he's one of the most successful artists even as a solo one, he just lost his touch....
4. Ringo Starr. Not that I don't care about him, but...I've never really heard his solo music before.

Paul is number 1. He made lots of great albums with Wings in the 70s. The reason John didn't decline is he took a very long break, and just when he made his come back, he was murdered. None of the other Beatles worked near as hard as Paul.
#2. John. I know every ones loves John, he always made a statement with his solo work and everything. Ono Plastic Band and Imagine are great albums too, but that's all he did that was any good until Double Fantasy. But letting Yoko sing half the songs ruined that album.
#3. George, only because of Cloud 9
#4. Ringo I didn't like his solo stuff, although he did play drums on many different albums for other artists.

well, I think John Lennon did some great stuff but also some that wasn't that good (e.g. the rock n' roll album), he also did this huge break in 75-80 so I wouldn't say he was that productive music wise...Ringo wasn't productive as a singer either+he's not a good singer or a frontman...Paul's music was exactly as it was when he was with the beatles so there's no real difference although he has the most records...George however did some great music...So for me it goes:
1. George
2. John&Paul
3. Ringo

George Harrison was hired for the band because he was a musician. Lennon and McCartney were good composers and writers, but initially inept at instruments other than piano, which had very low popularity in the early sixties. Starr was hired simply to fill in the format.

1. John Lennon- Imagine is the greatest song by him.
2. George- I just really like his voice better than everyone else's.
3. Paul- Jeez, he can write a song about anything. "Somebody's knocking at the door, Do me a favor, Won't you let em' in?" LOL!
4. Ringo- who really cares about Ringo? I mean, really?
