It's based on an underlying statute -- 50 USC 1701 -- that sets specific limits on how it can be implemented.

So, while Bush can try to twist it to suit his agenda -- the underlying law does not allow it to be used the way many people seem to fear it might be used.

Which means, if Bush does try to use it to silence opposition -- he's once again breaking the law.

it depends how they interpret and use it. the white house's take on things lately is out there, way out there. am i committing a crime by voicing my dislike of bush's plans in iraq? the way that they wave the flag in dc paints everyone with a negative remark as traitorous or treasonous.

Sounds quite over-reaching doesn't it. Just about anybody could accused of breaking that order just by attending an anti-war demonstration or something peaceful.

Fine with me. Undermining the war effort should be a criminal act.

It punishes acts of violence you "peace loving" liberals.

Deloris - I'm speaking to the thumbs-downers who I assume are liberals because they hate anything the current president does regardless if it's right or wrong. Btw don't make fun of my name, I'm very sensitive about that.
