I'll address one small aspect.

Mr. Nash began suffering from paranoia at an early age because of what I perceive as a biological deficit, rather than a psychological trauma.

He later became over zealous and compulsive because of the dysfunctional reaction of his ego to his superior intellect and critical thinking abilities.

So, I think that Mr. Nash suffered from chemical imbalances which may have re-enforced the psychological dysfunctions.

Id = child, ego = adult, and superego = parent. His wife became his parent; his imaginery friend is like the child within him that can play and do whatever it wants, and he's struggling to be the adult. At least that's what I think.
