Think of it this way, we all tell lies. Don't we? Bush is President for a reason, he is a smart guy, but the fact that we are at war, means an increase in tax. It also has to do with the supply versus demand.
Remember, politicians have to listen to the general public, well at least they should. Many lobbiers push for very important issues, just like Mothers against drunk driving. Lobbiers bring important issues to the front door of the people that can make a difference.
Do you agree?

I don't think this is true. I think there are great politicians out there who are genuine and honest in their intentions. On the Republican side I see Ron Paul as being firm in his convictions and genuine in his personality. Every year he returns some of his congressional pay to the US Treasury, and he works part time as a doctor, going back to his congressional district to deliver babies. On the Democratic side, I honestly think Obama is the genuine person he campaigns to be. Out of Columbia, he took a crappy, low paying job as a community organizer following the devastation of steel plants on the south side of Chicago. He spent years in the community, establishing relationships and helping poor families, only to rise to the state senate, and then to the US Senate. I think the man's background is outstanding, and he is a genuine politician in my mind. But speaking in bullet points has become part of our political culture. Most people aren't as intelligent as those in these forums; they prefer to shout slogans and hear talking points as opposed to understand the details. To answer your specific question, I don't think it matters what Republicans and Democrats say they will do... we live in a culture of slogans, and even after Bush raises taxes and expands the federal bureaucracy, come time of the election it's not what politicians do, it's what they say.But to say that ALL politicians are dishonest is misleading in my opinion. I think of the presidential candidates, we have Paul and Obama who demonstrate amazing integrity and character.

stop voting and start running for office!
if there are more people running, we have more options.
plus, voting for people WITH money usually means voting for greedy people. i have to say that i don't believe that EVERY politician is full of crap (paul wellstone was a good guy) but we can only fix our country if the real grassroots people come up and take power.
the only way to rid ourselves of greed is to rid ourselves of the urge to hoard money. i don't have that need, so i intend to run for office as soon as i'm at the point in my life where i can effectively make decisions for the country.
it's up to us.

It's not just politicians...all HUMANS lie. Denying that would be denying who and what you are. The brilliance lies in being able to determine when it's happening to you, and not allowing yourself to be fed by it.

Because there hasn't been a revolution in America that successfully overthrew the government recently.

We shouldn't! but when someone with integrity comes along (Ron Paul), Fox News demonizes him, and so we go with someone who can lie better than the last guy (an actor, perhaps?). Thank the useful idiots.

We can accept that fact -- or deny the reality.
But accepting the fact doesn't mean we cannot also do something about it..... we just need to take a stand.
