primary reasons for the decline and fall? I would emphasize the erosion of the middle class, the burgeoning national debt, the failure of our educational system to keep up with other nations in science and math, and our inability to provide adequate health care for millions of our own children.

The pompous attitude of our government officials that trickle down the all Americans that our country is the most powerful, entitled nation on the planet. I hate this attitude..... and I hate when I see Americans travel overseas with this attitude. Natonal pride is one thing. Pompous arrogance that is unwarranted is another.

I think those are good points. Although they may be viewed as rather broad and ambiguous. I would also site more specific problems.
Outsourcing of jobs that would be filled by the middle-class.
The suberversive and imaginary division of Americans through "Blue State, Red State"
Both Liberals and Conservatives share the blame equally in turning the democratic system into a reality TV show based on popularity and meaningless promises and political slight of hand.
I would also place blame on bottled water, Paris Hilton (and all the others like her), 24 hour news channels and SUV's
oh oh oh, and the fact that most americans will probably trip and fall over a homeless man to give money to United nations lead international missions. Foreign aide is of course good, but we need help at home too.

First, I wouldn't be writing such a title. The Americans, empire or no, are some of the nicest, smartest, kindest jokers on earth.
They are not in decline, (except for a load of liberal Democrats.)
They are the number-one power in the world, and can expect to stay there for my lifetime.
