The hardest part is normally cleaning out all the broken glass and putty and removing the wood strips if there are those or the rubber strips if that is what you have. Once clean, you have to measure exactly so the glass will fit (i.e. 11, not 10 7/8) If it is is a wood frame, pick up glazing points and glazing putty when you get the glass cut to size. The points are pushed in with a screwdriver and the putty covers the edge and points and seals the glass.

If your door is aluminum, the window may be fastened in with a plastic bezel that is screwed from the inside with maybe 18-20 screws. Remove this bezel while door is in the closed position, and then replace the broken panel. I too, would choose polycarbonate for the new pane.

One thing to remember as you install the new glass, if you do go with real glass, install it CENTERED in the hole. Leave a small gap all the way around and CENTER the galss. I didn't and the first time it came down, I was redoing the job!!!!! Use caulk to help center the glass.

Check for "stain glass stores" in your local Yellow Pages. They sell the larger sized sheets of glass you are looking for. They would probably cut it to size for a nominal fee. Have you thought about making your own with stain glass paints? Look in your local craft store for the paints, liquid "lead", and patterns. You might enjoy making one , in a design that would fit the style of your room.

Depends on how the glass is installed. I prefer to replace such with polycarbonate sheet (Lexan), which is for all intents and purposes indestructible.
