By our nature, we are social creatures- even the loners among us gather together to play escapist fantasy games. Loneliness is actually dangerous to our sanity. People who care about you will periodically remind you that you are not alone, because they do care. Everyone feels lonely from time to time, and because everyone feels it, we are all bound together by it. You are not alone in loneliness.

Just by letting you know that other people know how you feel. I think it's also because when your friends or some people see suffering they want to help and not knowing what else to say they try to ease their minds and yours by saying, "You're not alone" or "I know how you feel". I think maybe it's to make them feel better about the situation... not in a mean way, just because they think to say something will be better than an awkward silence.

Being alone doesn't have to mean being lonely
Fear of being alone can make you feel very insecure. If you fear being alone you may become over needy of other people and feel as if you must be around people at all times.
Of course to feel healthy and well we all need people in our life, but if you feel you must have people around all the time then this need is controlling you.

What causes fear of being alone?

Fear of being alone can be caused by all kinds of things. Maybe you felt abandoned at some time in life and came to associate being alone with being unloved or neglected. Or maybe you just never learnt to be comfortable while alone. Like anything in life you can learn to be better at being alone without being lonely, so you have the choice whether to be with others or not.

And when you overcome fear of being alone, you instantly become more independent and confident as a result.

In fact there are many advantages to overcoming fear of loneliness. When you are alone you have time to think calmly, and there is a special kind of peace you can experience only when alone. Time spent alone sometimes can also make time spent with others even more enjoyable. After all, chocolate cake just doesn't taste as good if you eat it every day!

Its supposed to make you feel like someone else understands and there's someone you can talk to about it. It makes me feel better all the time. If it doesn't make you feel better you must be a bit of an ***......But that's me being judgemental, which makes me an *** too. YOU'RE NOT ALONE.

Because it will mean that there's someone out there you can run to and depend on in times of trouble. It nurses your insecurity of just being left alone. It gives you hope that there's a "friend" who won't turn you away when you need someone. This will make you feel secured somehow.

The fear of being alone is one that haunts a lot of people because being the only one makes them unusual...out of the normal...an outcast. By saying "you're not alone", they are trying to empathize with you to let you know that others ave encountered this obstacle and won. It gives people confidence in their own abilities and hope for success in their struggles.

Some people will tell you this just simply to put the thought into your head that others have went through this and have made it through perfectly fine.

You are right this does nothing to solve the problem, except mabye give you a new attitude that you can come through this in time just like all the others did.

yes, it is. Because many people really do believe that no one has ever gone through what they are going through. I told my boys that over and again in a kind way when their dad passed on. That they were not alone. Other people out there had similar situations. It really helped them, especially when they met others who really had and they could share feelings.

They are only 'well meaning' people that are trying to say that they are there for you. Just have to say,, "I need a friend to listen", or "I need to get this off my chest"... they are the folks that are gonna listen to you.

You are not alone.. you have an ear, and maybe a friend.
