That makes it sound like a choice for many, and also the latest fashion! Why would people want something they are not born with? Are they influenced by cultural surroundings and socialization? People are who they hang around the most so with what appears to be youth experimenting with their sexuality, it sounds like a choice! What is everyone's thoughts about this?

I think kids nowadays are more confused than ever. They are bombarded with sexualized images from TV, movies and magazines and I think some (not all) are influenced by what they see. Kind of like peer pressure. They want to hop on the bandwagon because everyone else is doing it, too! And I also think many have overactive sex drives. Nobody has self-control anymore or the willingness to wait for the perfect one. So they give their precious gift away to anyone. Morals and values have been thrown down the drain to make way for the ugliness of promiscuity. I think people should focus on having emotional connections with people. The sexual part should come way later. Look at Hollywood. Celebs have so much money to burn, what's left but to turn to drugs and engage in wild and crazy sexual behavior. Sometimes it's not about orientation but the fact that people are just sexually starved and that's a symptom of an underlying problem.

Flowergirl, it's not a choice? I think for some it is, and for others it isn't. I can accept heterosexuals and homosexuals being born with their orientation -- but bisexuals? They can choose one or the other. I've read that some don't care about the gender of the person who they fall in love with. Well, believe it or not, most people don't work like that! More people are attracted to the opposite sex and want their own sons and daughters. Of course bisexuals can choose -- IF they want to. If a bisexual man really wants kids, he CAN find a wife if he wants to. If a bisexual woman wants kids, she CAN find a husband.

This is scary -- IF people (today or next generation) stop caring about the gender of who they fall in love with -- then what's next? Child farming and eggs and sperm being donated left and right? People should care about gender. That's why we we're all give a brain and the ability to make choices in life.

I heard on "striclty sex with doctor drew" that there are straight, gay and varying degrees of in between ppl.

So someone with no attraction to the same sex, I doubt is just going to go for it.

Well, there is no definitive proof that says that sexual orientation and gender orientation are elements that are caused by genetics or environment, but I'm guessing it's a little of both.

However, orientation is never a choice. Only denial of orientation is.

The thing is this "bisexuality is a fad" thing comes up fairly often. Now I don't mean those that are "GaWhInCo" (Gay While In College) because almost everybody does some kind of experimenting in their lives whether they talk about it or not. No, what I mean is the fact that every now and then the term comes up that being gay/lesbian/bi is trendy. Remember the "lesbian chic" media play a few years ago?

It's nothing more than an attempt to write of someone else's lifestyle as a trend; to trivialize it and make it seem insignificant. Don't buy into it. Lifestyle should be you defining yourself, not how someone else defines you.

The truth is that some are born with a given preference while the some have a "looser" or less defined preference. Yes, the majority prefers the opposite sex, but there are those that prefer the same or both. This is not a choice but a genetic orientation.

Bisexuality has a long basis in history and most likely in prehistory as well. We tend to look only at our "recent knowledge" to determine fads or trends but forget that our views in any culture or society are fairly limited on a global space. For example, there are many cultures that practice polygamy or are accepting of homosexuality as a normal thing.

i know at my age theres a ton of girls saying theyre bi just to get attention-
kind of sucks to people who have known in their whole lives and now just look like attention whores for saying it-
i think sexuality is something you can choose, but only to an extent. if youre open minded about sexuality, even if you think youre straight, its possible to become attracted to someone of the same sex-

whereas some people would feel attracted to someone of the same sex and just completely close it out because they think theres something wrong with it. i guess if you pretend long enough you can make even yourself believe it.

i think youre born with the possibility of being gay, and basically influenced by everything around you-
my younger sister didnt even know people COULD be gay until i told her i was bi, and she was totally cool about it. whereas when i told my mom she basically treated me as if i had a disease.

i really like this question
=]
my answer is just a bunch of random pointless ranting, but the question was thought provoking

Well, at my school, if you calimed you were gay* then you were the talk of the town and all of a suddent had fans-peoplle at my school seemed liberbal, so yeah, it was almost a popularity thing. So, I honestly believe it is a choice* rarely do people actually have mental illnesses where they are born with gay in their genes etc.

I think a lot of the girls that claim to be bi-sexual say so because they think it's cool. They do it because guys like it, and Lord knows that all a teenage girl wants is to be liked by a guy.

Real bisexuality is not trendy, all the kids that say its trendy are just curios. I think it started being trendy because being "emo" is trendy and a trait of being "emo" is liking both sexes.
