Tell him that whatever happens in high school you'll be his friend and you'll always be there for him.
Being a high school teacher, I saw how cruel kids can be... especially freshman. in my class I would never let kids tease other kids about being gay.

Unfortunately, I hate to be a downer but people will find ways of being cruel to each other no matter what. If he wasn't gay, someone may find another reason to be cruel. If he's thin or if he has long hair or any reason they like. I remember being picked on because I'm very tall. I tried not to let it bother me, but that's the best thing you can do. Just remember that no one has the right or the ability to make you feel bad unless you allow them to do so.

At my high school, we had a GSA (gay-straight-alliance -- the first of its kind in the country) that hung out together and discussed queer issues. I'm not sure how it will be for your friend, but I think it mostly depends on where you are (suburbia/rural areas are especially terrible, cities not so much).
If your school has such a program, I would recommend he talk with them as soon as he can. If it doesn't, and homophobia really is an issue, I suggest he just try to keep his head down.
Good luck.

More than likely most of the same people in jr high will be in your class and at your school. Then there will be new people from other school but tell him not to worry. It's not bad at all he will problay meet more people like himself. High school is great and things will change and it will open your mind to new things and people my best advice is to not go in scared!
Tell him that good luck!(^_^)

Depending on your size of school he should be fine. Remember, every freshman gets picked on, tell him not to take it too hard, and tell him chances are, he's not the only gay guy there.

Just continue to be a good friend and support him. Tell him to be confident in who he is and not to be obnoxious about rubbing his preferences in others faces. In other words, it's ok to be who you are, but you(he) don't need to make any one else be that way -- well they need to accept and tolerate, but thay is a step they need to come to on their own.

Tell him this: It doesn't matter what other people think about you. Your true friends will stick by your side and will stick up for you. People shouldn't care if your gay, its your life and your business!!!
also tell him that YOUR THERE FOR HIM NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!
