I've been using the Almay type for years now, but its not cutting it for me anymore. I need something easy to apply, that goes on (and stays) very black, and lasts a long time. No marker-type eyeliners please. Preferably drugstore brands and not waterproof. Unless its something amazing.

By the way, I know MAC Fluidline is good. However, I'm not looking to spend that much on eyeliner.
Drugstore brands only please.
thank youu

I didn't start wearing eyeliner until my '40's because my early experiments were flops. I first tried the old Maybelline liquid eyeliner (of the sixties and seventies) that went on as wide as a Magic Marker. Then I tried pencils. They were either too hard, (and very little product went on), or too soft, and the line got printed under my brows when I blinked. In the mid '90's I tried an eyeliner by Covergirl that was like a felt tip pen. When I could no longer find it, I switched to Revlon Colorstay liquid eyeliner in Black-Brown and continue to use that product. They also make a Blackest Black. See http://www.revlon.com/ for more shades and products.
The Revlon Colorstay liquid eyeliner comes in a cone shaped applicator with a fiber tip brush. The brush delivers more product than the Covergirl or other felt tip eyeliners I once used and keeps its shape until the product is used up (which for me is about two to three months). The old Maybelline liquid eyeliner I once used had a soft bristle brush that could wander off course. The Revlon brush is much easier for me to keep on track and is neither too soft nor too hard against my eyelids.
After applying a green or blue eye shadow to my eyelids with an angle-tipped brush (and just a little bit of the same color with the edge of the brush underneath my lower lashes), I use the liquid eyeliner. I start on the inner side of my lids just above my tear ducts and draw outward (following the lash line) toward the middle of my eyelids. I'm left handed, so I hold my eyeliner with my left fingers and hold the outer end of my eyelid with my right middle finger. The first stroke goes about 2/3's of the way across. Then I start on the outer end of my eyelids and draw inward toward the middle. That is the basic line along my lash line on my eyelids. Then I extend the line beyond my eyelids upward at a 45 degree angle about halfway toward the end of my brows. That is an option that I do for dramatic effect, and it helps define where I place the contour and higher shades of eye shadow. I rarely apply eyeliner below my lower lashes since my mascara and that wee bit of eye shadow there gives good definition.
While the liquid eyeliner is drying, I brush my brows and draw them in with brown eyebrow pencil. Then I use another angle brush and contour my eyes with a brown or burgundy eye shadow above my eyelids in the crease area and the lower part of my brow bone. I use a small rounded tip brush to place an off-white highlight shade of eye shadow (such as a very light tan or light pink) below my eyebrows. Mascara on my upper and lower lashes is the last step of my eye makeup routine. If it becomes necessary to replenish the eye shadow on my eyelids, then I also reapply my eyeliner. Long ago, I found out that eye shadow can obscure eyeliner, so the liner goes on after the eye shadow on my eyelids. The Revlon eyeliner stays on day at work or a hot, sweaty night on the dance floor. I wish my eye shadow lasted as long.
Warning: avoid getting liquid eyeliner in your tear ducts. The products have been safety tested, but it stings for several minutes until washed away by tears. Keep cotton swabs like Q-Tips handy to correct mistakes. Eye shadow can also help correct some eyeliner errors.
Eyeliner by itself or used in excess can be too harsh; that is why I avoided it for a good many years. When used in conjunction with other eye makeup products, eyeliner can help bring more definition to the eyes. I consider mascara to be THE essential eye makeup product, and I always wear lots of it to define and dramatize my eyes. I also prefer a bold green or blue on my lids just because I like color. Eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, and both the contour and highlighter eye shadows are all optional, but used together, they bring balance to my eyes.

The most amazing liner I have ever used is MAC fluidline and I will never use anything else. It is a gel liner but is very versatile. Apply with a thin slanted brush and you can achieve the intense color and precision of a liquid liner. Apply it with a slightly thicker brush and you can get the softness of a pencil. You can also use a brush or q-tip to smudge the line for the smoky look and it also doubles as a very good primer. You can apply a thick line along your lashes and smudge it up to the crease then apply shadow on top. It is extremely waterproof and creaseproof. Hope this helps

Regular eyeline is more soft and natural where as liquid is pretty bold. I find it hard sometimes that liquid is messy so I would suggest this. If you put a small then line of regular eyeliner than putting liquid over it I get good results because it's not near as messy. I think it just depends on which look your going for soft or bold.

Hands down, without a doubt..... SHISEIDO!!!! The tip is fantastic and fine. You have great control. It doesn't irritate the eyes like some cheaper brands.
I have a makeup channel on youtube. I am a big fan of liquid eyeliner... here's a video if you want to check it out:

I used to use drugstore makeup but have converted to MAC and adore it. However, since you are looking for a drug store brand, Maybelline's Great Lash mascara is fabulous and long-lasting. It gives all of the more expensive brand-name mascaras a run for their money.
