Has anyone bought these glo fish, that are genetically altered zebra danios? If so what kind of luck have you

had with them? At $8.00 a fish I would like to know! And if they breed are the fry glowing as well? They are so pretty, I just need to know more anout them, before I purchase! Thank You!

I bought some of the original glofish, which didn't look at all like the ones that are out now (http://www.thefishwizards.com/images/full/dual%20glogfish%20titled%20low.jpg ) less "glow", and they cost $12! I was teaching an environmental science class, and there was a section about genetic engineering, so I wanted to have these to bring to class that day.

My three lived for either 3 and 4 years, which makes them about average for a danio lifespan (2-5 years).

If you bred them the fry would also glow. A genetics class at the school where I taught also saw them and some of the class got curious about the genetics, and if the trait was dominant or recessive, so they contacted the people who "engineered" them. This is a dominant trait, so the fry will glow if they have either one or two genes for the "glow" characteristic. So even if you would cross a glofish with both genes for the trait with with a normal zebra danio, the fry would all glow (but if you bred these fry only about 3/4 of their fry would).

The only question I would have about breeding is the crossing of two different colors - what color would you get? I don't know that anyone has tried this and reported the results.

undesirable theory! better theory: 25 gal- 3 zebras 4 glofish 4 cory cats OR 2 secret snails OR 6 ghost shrimp a heater (set to seventy 8 tiers or so) a clear out with a solid cutting-edge Your fishies are a very lively species and don't have adequate space. additionally they like better faculties than what you have. Please exchange your setup or supply them to somebody who has a superb abode for them. good success. :D
